Drug Allergies


Medicine or drug allergies are caused by the body repelling certain medication or drugs. The symptoms can range from vomiting, nausea which is mild. Sever allergy can lead to a near fatal anaphylaxis. This is a severe allergic reaction where the entire body is affected. Histamine and other substances are released by the tissues in different body parts. The airways or conduits for oxygen get tightened and stifle the flow of oxygen. Certain drugs such as x-ray dye or morphine may lead to very similar symptoms.

Tissues in different parts of the body release histamine and other substances. This causes the airways to tighten and leads to other symptoms. The reaction to drugs is triggered one time, usually the first time but it goes unnoticed. The immune system triggers an incorrect bodily reaction. The next time when a similar drug is consumed several antibodies and histamine are released into the blood stream.
Many drug allergies result in skin rashes and hives. It is a delayed type of drug allergy that occurs after a week of taking such a vaccine or medicine or vaccine. It is also known as. Serum sickness
Antibiotics and penicillins are very common causes of drug allergies. Insulin (animal source), Iodine and sulfa drugs are known to have allergic effect on many individuals.
